Stillness in Motion – 3 Airborne Self-Assemblies
NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore
Mapletree Business City
Alexandra, Singapore
Tomás Saraceno’s Stillness in Motion—3 Airborne Self-Assemblies floats as a sculptural constellation above the Mapletree Business City (MBC) in Singapore, tethering earthbound architectures to aerial imaginaries. Hovering between sky and structure, the installation composes an immersive cloudscape of suspended tension structures, and results from Saraceno’s explorations of architecture’s that connect the spider’s silken web to the cosmic web at large. Destined to become a point of observation where gazes of visitors and passersby are enmeshed by myriad of reflective patterns, its clusters form fragments of the surrounding environment, reinventing its architectonic geography. Spatially, the installation become an ever-changing constellation of nodes that weave together the inner space of the building and the lush of the park, and vice versa – casting green glances back to the interior space of the building. The public art piece becomes a mediator between viewers, the site of the Mapletree and clouds floating high up.
