On Air

01.10.2004 – 10.01.2005
Pinksummer
Genoa, Italy

Pneu: the base of all nature. Pneuma: air. Pneumatos: to breathe. Pneo: to live—or reside in.

Up there… in-forming the air, in a common framework of perceptions, synergetic breathing, you are on-air… Where is everybody? Up and down, at the rhythm of circulation… people… air… two entrances, two pressures, the same air: Genoa and Mediterranean. A sign in the European cushion, sharing the same hermetic volume of air. The necessary entrance and exit of people into the cushion will allow, therefore, the renewal of air—and will prevent your suffocation.

The lightness of the bodies suspended on the air will determine the intensity of this exchange. A faster actualization to ever-changing contexts… you, the space, in a simultaneously behaviour. Now, up in the sky, like a cloud—evaporated, boiled from the ground, melted in the “envelope beyond measure”—a fragment of an Air-Port-City. A platform: habitable. Cells, or cities, that float in the air, that change form and join into each other like clouds—flying through the breathing atmosphere, moved by winds, local or global, produced by pockets of air that move around the world, in an attempt to equalize the (social) temperature and differences in pressure… a sustainable mobility migration.

Cities in a permanent state of transformation—nomadic. Many will never return back to the same place, simply because the place will continuously change. Air-Port-City is like a huge kinetic structure that works towards a real economic transformation. Moving from a personal “belief” to a collective one is the first step towards the realization of this idea. After the unification of Europe, a “europeanafroamericanasianoceaniasfydsdf” will be created—like the continental drifts at the beginning of the world, the new cities will search for their positions in the air, to then find themselves in the universe. From Cirrocumulus to Cirrocumuluscity!

Your shadow, like a fresco projected onto the ceiling, is a feedback for a faster process of communication—capable of imagining more elastic and dynamic borders, rules (political, geographical, etc), of a new space: cyberspace. “Problems should be understood as opportunities.”
